The Great Reconstruction

1 Kings 18:30–32 · NASB28 min
About This Episode

Before the fire fell on Mount Carmel, Elijah did something significant: he repaired the altar of the Lord that had been torn down. Sometimes we are asking God for fire while neglecting the surrender, covenant, holiness, and formation the altar represents.

This episode walks through 1 Kings 18: Israel's gradual drift from covenant faithfulness, the confrontation between Elijah and the prophets of Baal, and why reconstruction had to come before fire.

The issue is not that stages, platforms, production, influence, or large gatherings are inherently wrong. The issue is what happens when the platform replaces the altar. When performance replaces formation. When intensity replaces integrity. When visibility becomes more important than faithfulness.

Elijah's response was not better performance. It was reconstruction. Maybe the question for the church is not simply where the fire is. Maybe the question is: what happened to the altar?
