The Unseated Series · Season 1: Unseating Performance · Episode 3
When Glory Goes Missing
Israel still had the Ark. The priests were still in position. The people still knew how to shout. The earth even shook. But outward spiritual intensity was not the same as inward alignment.
This episode examines Israel's defeat in 1 Samuel 4, the capture of the Ark of the Covenant, the fall of Eli's house, and the naming of Ichabod: "The glory has departed." It explores the uncomfortable possibility that a religious system can preserve its structure, language, expressions, and experiences while losing the relationship that gave those things their weight.
This is not an argument against Pentecostal expression, spiritual gifts, structure, emotion, or powerful worship experiences. The question is deeper: what is our expression rooted in? Scripture shows us that intensity is not the final metric. Fruit is.
Once glory is gone, survival is not success. But the story does not end with Ichabod. There is still an invitation to come out of performance, return to alignment, and recover the weight of obedience, covenant, holiness, and consecration.
