Did We Misjudge Job's Wife? "Curse God and Die" Explained

Job 2:7–9 · NASB9 min
About This Episode

For generations, Job's wife has been described as faithless, foolish, the voice of the enemy, and even a tool of Satan because of one sentence: "Do you still hold fast your integrity? Curse God and die." But does the biblical text actually say all of that about her?

This episode returns to Job 2 to examine what Scripture actually tells us about Job's wife, what it does not tell us, and how centuries of interpretation may have gone beyond the text. It is not arguing that everything she said was right. The question is whether we have said more about her than Scripture does.

She buried ten children. She lost virtually everything. She watched her husband suffer. And from one moment of grief, generations built an identity around her.

Maybe the deeper lesson is about the way we interpret Scripture, the way we judge hurting people, and our willingness to fill biblical silence with our own assumptions. Say what the text says. Stop where the text stops. And don't build cases God never made.
