Psalm 37:4 Explained: Does God Really Give You What You Want?

Psalm 37:4 · NASB26 min
About This Episode

For many believers, Psalm 37:4 has been presented almost like a spiritual transaction: pray more, fast more, serve more, delight in God more, and eventually the blessing will follow.

But Psalm 37 was not written to people trying to acquire more. David was speaking as an older man to faithful people watching the wicked prosper while they suffered. His instruction was not to manipulate God into changing their circumstances, but to trust, dwell, delight, commit, rest, and wait on Him.

The promise is not simply that God fulfills the wish list you brought to Him. As God becomes your delight, He begins transforming the heart that wrote the list. This is the difference between transaction and transformation.

For those who have prayed, believed, served, and still wondered why God did not give them the outcome they expected: God has not failed you. Bad theology may have failed you. A mishandled verse may have failed you. But God has not moved.
